The historic Elk Grove Cemetery includes the gravesites of a multitude of noted central valley residents including a member of the Donner Party. The focus of the building design was to blend harmoniously into the 100-year-old complex. To accomplish this a low profile deep green metal hip roof was used to embrace the earth and mirror the colors of the surrounding heritage oak trees. Organic wall materials and colors including brick to match the decomposed granite walks further grounds the building, providing both refuge and outlook. Construction was completed in 1996.
